Following two years of development, a high-performance LED illumination system which conforms to the demands of automobile test centres (a fact confirmed by numerous tests by automobile manufacturers, suppliers and service providers) was finally presented at the Testing Expo 2011 exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany. Each of the new, wide-angle 240 watt LED heads exhibited has been specially designed and developed for the vehicle interior. The wide 120° emitting angle and enormous light output mean that the complete footwell of the vehicle can now be illuminated by an LED head, without the object in view being exposed to heat. The colour temperature of 5,500 Kelvin is close to daylight, and therefore perfectly coordinated to the colour sensors. Due to the extreme restrictions on size and weight, compromises have had to made regarding the operating time. Nevertheless, the current maximum operating time of 2 minutes under full load, is a period which still far exceeds the time requirements in test operations. The intelligent LED control module enables up to two WA-LED heads to be operated. To enable optimal incorporation of the lighting system into an existing infrastructure, control can be programmed with a USB interface that enables parameters such as trigger flank, T0 lighting duration, and temperature monitoring to be set.
